about a year ago i bought about 50 prints of banksy’s london work off some guy on ebay for like $10. some of the stuff is in other books i own, some of it i hadn’t seen before. all of it i love.

i think i’m finally going to get around to hanging a few up.

i remember the first time i saw this. my friend and i were entranced and drawn toward it from across the room and then kinda gagged upon getting close and seeing the flies.

also, as with lots of my favorite art, i wanted to touch it.

One of my favorite pieces by Damien Hirst went up for auction at Sotheby’s Contemporary Art Day Sale in London yesterday. Someone got it at a steal for just $229,250. It’s named Loathing and is made up of dead flies and resin. I couldn’t find a great detail picture but in real life the depth and texture you get from even far away is so subtle you can’t help but be attracted to it. As you approach, you realize you are being entranced by dead flies but it makes it more attractive(at least to me). My favorite thing about Damien Hirst is that he can use anything as a medium and make it the most intoxicating thing you have ever seen.
Yes, I’ve seen this on eat the Saatchi gallery in London and it blew me away; it was easily the most subtle work there (imagine that) but one of the most powerful; with almost a physical reaction. I was in London that time for a very short visit and I entered the gallery appr. half an hour before closing. Seeing all the art there in such a short period was very intense and not unlike a rollercoaster. Loved it.

going out tomorrow night with some of my cousins for a belated birthday celebration. they’re all about 5 years older than me and used to be so mean to me when i was 4 and they were 9 and 10.

now their in they’re early 30s and i’m like, haha! you’re old and i’m not.
